How President Obama Will Help My Braves

Hey folks! I’m JB. Here’s your Braves blog for the day.

I’m still enjoying the weekend I had and still on the job hunt. It’s a little tough these days but don’t worry about ol’ JB!

Before we get started today I just want to say. Don’t let the title of today’s post fool you. We’re not gonna get political. But love him or hate him, we’ve got a new President elect and after eight years, some fresh blood for the White House. After watching last night’s events unfold, I got to thinking about not only what will change about our country but what Mr. Obama will do to help my Braves rebuild as the Nation does.

So I wrote the following letter to Barack Obama to ask him to help out my Braves as they prepare for 2009.

Dear Mr. Obama,

First of all, congratulations! President-elect! Wow! That’s a pretty big deal. I know you’re probably very busy getting your transition office ready and January 29th will be here before you know it!

Anyway, getting to the point, I was just wondering if you could help me out with something. I know you’re more of a basketball fan than baseball but my Atlanta Braves need your help. (By the way, did you ever watch them on TBS in Hawaii?) Well, I’ve listed some ideas below for you to take a look at. Since you’ll be the President, I’m sure you can make it all happen. Please do. We need another World Series Championship badly.

Health Care

The Braves had Mark Kotsay, Chipper Jones, Tom Glavine, Tim Hudson, John Smoltz, Yunel Escobar, Omar Infante, Rafael Soriano, Mike Hampton, Pete Moylan all spend considerable time on the DL this year.  Would your plan to “reduce the costs of catastrophic illnesses [injuries] for employers and their employees” help the Braves save money from mounting costs when half the roster goes down again next year? Perhaps your plan to”promote public health” will assist our players to take better preventative measures next year. Stretching?

Seniors & Social Security
I know you’re hoping to provide cheaper prescription drugs and strengthen Medicare. If we re-sign Glavine and Smoltz, this will be a very important issue for our team. Also, with the likelihood of Bobby’s retirement after 2009, I’d appreciate it if you could make sure these guys are taken care of in their later years.

Taxes

There isn’t anyone in the Braves dugout without “Bat Boy” on their back making less than $250k. So I know you said they will see a slight increase. But if all of us -$250 K-ers who make up most of the Turner Field denizens get a tax cut, it would help us have more money to spend on $7.00 hot dogs and beers. But what about mandating what I’d like to call a  Hot Dog Cost Reduction Act. Personally I’d love to have $1 hot dog at every home game.

Energy

I appreciate your efforts to create more clean energy jobs, reduce oil importing, and add 1 million hybrid cars to the road by 2015. But you don’t think wooden bats will be seen as unfriendly to the enviornment do you? I don’t think I can go to the Ted and endure hearing the “clang” of an aluminum bat. Please make sure that no matter how “environmental” we get we don’t stop cutting down maple and ash trees by the millions in order to make easily breakable Major League Louisville Sluggers so we can all have an authentic baseball experience at every game we attend.

Well that’s all I can think of right now. I don’t expect a reply but even if you get a minute to post a comment on my blog to let me know you got my ideas that would be fantastic.

Again, congratulations. I’m very happy for you and I hope you enjoy being President. I hear it’s a tough job but I’m sure you’re up for it.

Sincerely,

JB @ The Launching Pad

P.S.
Keep choppin’!

  • I think you should type that up on your Launching Pad letterhead and send it! I think he is going to have a tough first year or longer and it would shed a little humor on the task at hand. But remember he's a Chicago White Sox fan.

  • Great post, I am a cardinals fan but this is really good!! Cant wait to read your next one.

  • Yeah but he might show some love for us since it's not the Cubs right?

  • Thanks! I hope you have you back often. I tried your link but it didn't work. Want to try again or email it to me so we can check it out? Thanks for stopping by. We love baseball fans of all kinds here.

  • Well put. With some love, Obama could turn GA blue.

  • Thanks JB, sweet points but I reckon not only is politics as easily as complicated as baseball to a fresh faced English chap like me, but at least you guys get a shot at change, here in Britain apparently we can't have a black prime minister according to the experts.

    Keep happy!

    Ollie

  • Nice election piece there JB – I actually hit up Bravoyeur for the first time in a while today. I'm hoping to get back in the swing of things! We'll see how it works out haha.

  • lmfao…

ok ok, i decided to remove my last post –even tho, please forgive the political opinion, i'm happy as shit he got elected. however i've promised myself, and the 2 others who may read me, that i…
    will not drunk post
    will not drunk post
    will not… yeah.
anyhoo, thoroughly enjoyed this. think we might play well.

aight, imho. first, i realize this is sacrelig, but really, who gives a crap about glavine? i mean, dude was an atlanta icon, and yes i realize schuerholz was a dick (read business man, with or without dislike), but c'mon, the fuckin mets? so mr. wren sentimentally hires an aged pitcher who shoulda retired 5 yrs ago, at 8 mil no less. whadda he expect?

and hampton? oh man, i'll refrain… ok, i won't. it got in is head. i don't have a problem with that at all. i do however have a problem with how the organization handled it. slipped in the hot tub? christ.

lol… greenie are ya? i dig sarcasm. i also dig wood bats… 'cept maybe maple. don't care for my pitchers with projectiles stickin outta their necks. not an attractive look (unless you're a met or yanker)

well enough of all that. ya think we'll pickup peavy? if we hafta forfeit talent such as escobar i'll be pissed. then again, i was upset when giles was traded. :|

ok gots to go. synapses stopped firing an hour ago.
    cheers bro
