~JB, hot fresh Braves blog like a Krispy Kreme donut, looking for my coffee, trying to climb out of my mired state of depression
Jeff Francoeur has always been one of my favorite players. I was thrilled the day he came up for the Braves back in 2005. And even during all his struggles I just believed he would pull through.
But his reaction is what is really disappointing to me.
Frenchy said it came a “surprise” to him and that this “dampers” his relationship with the Atlanta Braves.
Be careful, Jeff. You may damper your relationship with Atlanta Braves fans.
After turning down a long term contract from the Braves then to not go quietly to Mississippi… well it doesn’t bode well with anyone in Atlanta.
Let me just say this about Jeff’s “surprising” news. How can he not be surprised by this move? He’s been giving struggling a bad name lately and notoriously left men on base night after night. We were all talking about the possibility of this move over all of last week.
But, let’s look on the bright side. I know this is a low point, for Jeff and the Braves, but this could be a career saving move if he can make the most of it. I know it’s disappointing and humiliating. No one likes being demoted. But this is a chance to turn everything around while he’s still young and can harness his talent. But slamming the club when you’re not slamming the baseball seems a little counter intuitive. I’m not here to slam Jeff. I wish him the best and I hope he returns with a new ignition in his swing. Who knows, maybe I would lash out too if I was experiencing all the same frustration he’s had this year. But the Braves are not giving up on JF”K” they’re giving him a chance to hang around in Atlanta for many years to come.
Jason Perry, former Yellow Jacket, joins the team from Richmond today. He’s hitting .302 in 31 games with five homers and 14 RBIs. At least we get another hometown boy to replace the other.
Francoeur will be with Mississippi and Phillip “Meltdown” Wellman until the All Star Break, at least.
Tonight’s game is a 7:30 against Houston (not Chicago on the Fourth). Watch if you can stand it.
Keep Choppin’

You know, if you make veiled threats about taking your talent elsewhere. You better make sure you have the talent to back it up. Frenchy would be better suited taking this as a learning experience, a chance to repair a sliding early career. Instead, he has let his ego get big because of a strong start. I truly hope he gets his issues worked out and can come back strong for the Braves. I think he has so much talent and he could be such as asset if he can get control of his batting. But, he will lose fan support so quickly by acting the way he is about being moved to the minors.

Frenchy will be back in a big way this year. He had a solid night in his debut. First AB, he hit a bomb that was ruled foul. His manager came out, argued, and got tossed.
