BravesBlog.net is going through some changes.
- New title. The blog will now officially be called “The Launching Pad”. Although I will retain the BravesBlog.net url, and will be adding other urls ( http://braveslaunchingpad.com which I know is long but I’m working on getting some more).
- New look. The collage banner you see is actually a sampling of my Braves collection. Made up of caps, ticket stubs, Sports Illustrated, T Shirts, a Murphy autographed bat, Braves pennants, and of course some of my scorecards.
- Little else is really new at the moment, other than the template, but the blog is taking a step in a more clearer direction. I’m sure you’ll see what this blog is really all about the more you hang around, aside from the obvious.
I truly welcome your feedback as I fine tune The Launching Pad and hope you’ll continue to enjoy, read, comment and come here as often as you like when you want to talk Braves.
Thanks for your patience as I reorganize and tighten up the ship so to speak.
In Other News
Braves won and avoided a sweep before hitting the road once more.
Kelly Johnson had a 3 RBI day.
Jorge pitched 7 quality innings and got the “W”.
Gonzo got his 2nd save of the year, 2 K’s, 0 hits, and 0 ER’s.
We’re now an even 4 games behind Philly with a series in Toronto against the last place Jays coming up and then back home to hopefully gain some ground against the Philistines.
Keep Choppin,
JB

Hey there,
I caught wind that Anthony Lerew was sent to Class A Myrtle Beach on Sunday and will begin a rehab stint on the 27th. Is this true? What other information do you have?
Another thought, will the Braves trade Franceour before the deadline? With all the young talent in our farm system (Anderson, Schafer, Heyward, etc.) it might be worth it to pick up some relief in exchange for Francoeur.
Thanks.

Well, I haven’t heard this rumor about Lerew. He’s still listed on the 60 day DL as of June 26th but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t started to pack his bags for SC. He’s not listed on the Pelicans’ roster right now either so there’s not an “official” way to confirm this or not. Of course Lerew had an 0-2 2007 in his 3 fill in starts and a 7.71 ERA. So I’m not really hanging my hopes on his comeback. Besides, Morton, Campillo, and even Reyes from time to time have filled in decently lately.
It’s a fact Frenchy is struggling in so many ways right now. It’s embarrassing. However, I don’t think he’s on the trading block. The reason being, two things, he’s a kid and he’s talented. I could be wrong but Bobby doesn’t typically give up on somebody when they’re having a really bad stretch no matter how bad it is. Chipper’s had these type of weeks and even months too. And despite what a lot of nay sayers are saying, I don’t think we’re sellers yet. We’re 4.5 games out and on the mend. No reason to give away the farm and rebuild just yet. But that’s just my humble opinion.

I’m not talking about “selling” here, I’m talking about trying to get some bullpen help. Our offense is absolutely incredible and the offense wouldn’t even notice the loss of Francoeur (well, in a bad way). However, our bullpen needs help and with the acquisition of a bullpen rockstar or two we’d win the division for sure. Then again Francoeur is a 100% clutch guy, so he could be HUGE when September/October roll around. I think there is something fundamentally wrong with his swing and Terry Pendleton needs to do a bit of a better job working through this slump with him. When he gets his swing fixed he’ll be better.

Well I didn’t think you were implying we be sellers… (see my latest post) a lot of guys are out there talking about it. That’s all.
But yeah some late inning relief help would be nice. I just think Frenchy’s problems are in his head. We know he’s got talent. I don’t know how long you wait for him to snap out of it but I don’t see him as trade bait yet.
I think if we can get and stay mostly healthy we still got a shot.
Thanks, AB.
